Sunday, February 24, 2008 Some fencing jokes I found on Facebook... 1. A kid may be spending too much time fencing if... he can squat 400 lbs, but can't do 20 push-ups. 2. Q: What are three ways a foil fencer can defeat his opponents easily? A: Lots of lessons, thousands of hours of practice, or switch to epee. 3. Q: How many sabre fencers does it take to change a light bulb? A: Seven. Two who race to change the bulb, and five more to vote on which one got to the socket first. 4. You can always tell what weapon someone fences by listening to their conversations: - Foil fencers talk about the price of their clothes - Épée fencers talk about the price of their weapons - Sabre fencers talk about the price of their women
Friday, February 22, 2008 Currently Playing: Naive The Kooks I feel like a lady! My first eyebrow threading experience was scary, to say the least. The process was so painful and I couldn't stop tearing, and the lady showed no remorse... she just told me to stretch my eyelids and continued tugging at my brows with those dangerous threads. But my brows look much neater now (and I'm told that the pain gets increasingly tolerable) so I can just imagine myself skipping along to my next threading session. :-)
Tuesday, February 19, 2008 Yeah, Jolyn got into NJ. Yeah, she's accepting it. Afterall, the darker the place, the brighter the light, right? Well I'm perfectly happy for her, but sometimes I secretly wish that people will quit comparing. Blatant enough.
Monday, February 18, 2008 It's only Monday and I'm bushed. Sigh I suspect the rest of the week would be hell.
Sunday, February 17, 2008 Currently Playing: Bottle It Up Sara Bareilles My weekend has been eventful, and surprisingly, quite pleasant too. I met Mark on Friday after school and he accompanied me down to Parkway to get my fencing stuff after his driving lessons. Ah, I regret getting the bag now... so small... should have well waited for WW to get it from Germany. Sigh anyway moving on, Mark got me a Swarovski crystal miniature and it's so fragile help I don't know what to do with it! The trip to Cameron Highlands was quite enjoyable. Dad booked us a good coach, with a personal tv set and very spacious seats, so we were entertained during the long bus journeys. I watched quite a number of movies on the coach and slept a lot, and barely did any revision which I initially planned to. But I did manage to have fun... and the weather was damn cool. We went out early this morning and were told that it's 12 degrees! And this is Malaysia, btw. I've never eaten more strawberries in my life. We had to finish a huge box of them last night cuz nobody wants to carry them back to S'pore. But I'm not complaining! :-) Esther texted to say that we've both been promoted to the Junior Team now. Well, it's this hierarchy thing in the nat squad, with Senior Team being something like the first team, Junior being next in line and Cadets being the third. Hmm if only SpexTAG would come in soon... it'd make me very happy.
Thursday, February 14, 2008 That Sunday, I was faced by a philosophical dilemma: I had chosen to respect the institution rather than the words on which that institution was based. I like to imagine that, when she left the church, Athena met Jesus. Weeping and confused, she would have thrown herself into His arms, asking Him to explain why she was being excluded... And looking at Athena, Jesus might have replied: "My child, I've been excluded too. It's a very long time since they've allowed me in there." - The Witch of Portobello, Paulo Coelho
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 I was finally having training this afternoon, and looking forward to leaving on a weekend trip to Cameron Highlands this Friday. But my head is stuffed and I look like death warmed up. Coach ringed to check how I was doing and even suggested that I'm a weakling. Just. Perfect.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008 Hahahahaha to defend myself on what dear Ethel has said, I do not read disgusting books. It contains sexual content only plainly because it's a book about Sigmund Freud and his theories. Not my fault hence kthxbye. ![]() :-)
How do we find the courage to always be true to ourselves - even if we are unsure of who we are?
Thursday, February 07, 2008 Currently Playing: This Love Maroon 5 Ah, finally a time to blog... Pretty eventful week so far. Went for Poetry Slam at Zouk on Tuesday evening with some of the Literature students and we quite enjoyed it, though I reckon I wouldn't be back in the near future. It was good company, with some good performances, but the whole thing just didn't appeal too much to me. Hariz's team got first in the JC category btw. And thanks to Hans and Cynric, our team didn't do too badly, considering that we just took turns and threw in some random lines each. School ended relatively early yesterday cuz of the CNY celebration so I could come home to catch up on my much needed sleep. But ironically, I woke up in the evening feeling really grouchy. Oh, and I didn't quite enjoy Day One of the Lunar New Year. Aiyah, visiting has never been my thing. But time passed surprisingly fast so I didn't complain at all. Not to mention the red packets I collected today. Well, it's not a lot, but decent enough. I'm planning to get my fencing travel bag and a new bag for school once the holidays (barely) are over. My trusty leather Esprit tote just failed on me today. The main zip broke and I'm stressing about how I'm supposed to transport my hundred tonnes of notes to school on Monday. Sigh. They say tomorrow will be a better day. But how exactly? P.S. I miss Mom.
Sunday, February 03, 2008 Mom brought Jerica out today and bought her clothes from GAP and a freaking watch which costs $125! Jerica's only in Primary 3 for pete's sake. Not that I'm feeling sore 'cos Mom gave both Jo and I some cash too. But that's not the point. Just when I was thinking about what to do with the money, Jerica told me to "buy some manners." We had a mega shouting match after that. But all's good now. We're fooling around. :-)
Junior Trials was just bad. I totally screwed up poules, and met Ellyn AGAIN in the DE. We meet each other in the DE for almost in every competition, really. But she's a really nice opponent; she knows exactly what she's doing and she's very calm. Just like what I hope to be. James confirmed with us about Selangor Open yesterday. Tentatively Z's gonna send Nelicia, Sharm, Esther and me for Women's Sabre and the four of us will occupy two rooms. We haven't gotten the sleeping arrangement settled, but I'm hoping that James will get us two rooms, either side-by-side or on opposites. Anyway I've been wanting to get a fencing roller bag for the longest time. Z just shipped in some Uhlmann equipment bags but I don't really fancy the roller bags they've got. Yes, they're perfect for training, but just not big enough for travelling purposes. Found this on the Allstar Uhlmann website: ![]() I really like that black one. Perhaps I'll ask Weiwen to help me get one from Germany since he's going over for competition.
Saturday, February 02, 2008 Currently Playing:Goodbye My Lover James Blunt Four hours to my reporting time for Junior Trials and here I am, refusing to get off the computer. And I'm supposed to meet Esther for brunch at 11. Felicia, Syahirah and myself decided to go down to STPI for the Plath-paintings exhibition. We braved the rain and the foul-smelling river at Clarke Quay and finally found the place. The paintings are so abstract and most of the poems the artist made used of are not from Ariel. We only managed to identity 'Getting There', 'Elm' and something else which I can't recall. The paintings are all lovely... alas the three of us don't understand Art very much. But after browsing through a book which explains some of the paintings, we realised that many of the overarching themes in Ariel can actually be identified from the works. And being Literature students, we analysed almost every single line of words we saw that explains the paintings. I'd say it's quite a worthy trip. Oh btw for those who are keen on going, I saw that the exhibition's only on from 12 Jan to 2 Feb. So it ends today, not tomorrow. But then again, I can't be sure, since Ms Zal said it's till 6pm on Sunday. Be sure to check if you're going down! Anyways. I'm in absolutely no mood to fence Junior Trials today actually. To think I actually forgot about it till Esther reminded me on Wednesday... and Coach Min had forgotten about it.. and I forgot about it AGAIN till yesterday morning. Terrible, right? I'm sure my results later will be that too.
