Thursday, August 18, 2011 Currently Playing: In The Mood Glenn Miller Hej hej! Greetings from Sweden! Mark and I have settled into our new home at Gräshagen in Jönköping, and it's a lovely place. There's a supermarket just across the road, and the people in the estate are very friendly. They make small conversations with you anywhere you go. We've also got a view of the forest from our living room. Every now and then, we see people hiking and horse-riding in the forest. School begins next week and we're sorta looking forward to it. From the schedule, it seems like we've only got lessons on two days each week, so that will leave us with plenty of time to travel. We're planning to explore eastern europe first. The last weekend was spent in Stockholm. We put up at Skanstulls Vandrarhem, a hostel in Södermalm, which is a district in central Stockholm. Great place, but I wished we had more interaction with the other hostelites. Anyway, I've uploaded pictures on Facebook. Will post some of them here when I've got the time. Gotta shower and do grocery shopping now. Hej då!
Thursday, August 11, 2011 Leaving for Sweden tomorrow! ♡
Sunday, July 17, 2011 Blogging from my week-old iPad 2. Mark and I both got the 32gb wifi + 3G model for Sweden. Till now, I still don't get why people are crazy about it. Internship is ending in two weeks' time. It has been a great learning experience. The people in the newsroom have been kind, and there are plenty of opportunities. So far, I have written more than a hundred stories in the last two months or so. Property news, financial results, market reports, corporate surveys etc. I decided that I like business journalism quite a lot. Brought Hannah and Sarah to vivo yesterday. It was very tiring. To be fair, they have been well-behaved. But as Mark said, kids walk very slowly, get easily distracted, have 101 requests e.g. no veg, hungry, go to the playground etc. At the end of the day, we were so glad to return them to their parents. Nevertheless, it was a fun day and I'm glad the kids enjoyed themselves. On an unrelated note, I just got a haircut. It's a short bob. May get it shorter before I leave for Sweden. The back is a little too thick for my liking. Gonna get ready for mass now. Ciao.
Wednesday, May 25, 2011 Currently Playing: Luka Suzanne Vega Internship at SPH has commenced. The first two days were spent at systems training with Ronald, and I only reported to the newsroom today. It has been fantastic so far. I can see myself doing this for the rest of my life. In Suzy Welch's wise words, I know I'm going to be a journalist, and that is it... full stop. For a start, nothing pleases me more than seeing my own byline, my stories, published on the BT website. I feel my life is complete. These are the stories I wrote on my first day. They could definitely do with some refining, but given the time constraint, they'd pass. ![]() ![]() ![]() The folks at BT are pretty friendly in general, and I made friends with the other interns, including a senior from CS - Maxie. I meet Mark and Claudio for lunch everyday, and it's always nice hanging around familiar people. :-) Needless to say, I look forward to work everyday. I think I may have found the cure to morning grumpiness. Maybe.
Monday, May 16, 2011 Currently Playing: La La La Standing Egg Exams are almost over! I'm left with Pub Design on the 19th, and then it's SPH internship, Sweden and PI till Aug next year. Won't have to sit for another exam till Dec 2012 and it sounds like a dream! This sem has gone by fairly quickly, and the exams have been less painful than those from the previous sems. They only make up 30% of the final grade for most of the modules I'm taking this sem, which are pretty interesting modules on their own anyway. My team emerged tops for the HPB Mental Resilience advertising campaign. This is especially meaningful for us because it's our swansong assignment for COM231, and there's prize money to be won. Hannah, Krystal, Mark and I are going to spend the money on Korean BBQ buffet immediately after our 223 paper. Heh. 3 days to go!
